Friends of Eden Animal Shelter was notified in June of 2016 that we would be receiving $1,000 as part of a Shelter Animals Count Incentives Grant that Maddie’s Fund presented to every shelter or rescue organization that registered with Shelter Animals Count during the period of March 25th through April 30th.
Maddie’s Fund offered these grants to boost participation in the National Shelter Anima...ls Count Database. The goal of Shelter Animals Count is to share the data to enable the measurement of progress in animal welfare, to inspire life-saving collaboration and have a positive impact over pet homelessness over time.
Maddie’s Fund was founded in 1994 by Workday co-founder Dave Duffield and his wife Cheryl. The Duffields named Maddie’s Fund after their Miniature Schnauzer Maddie, who always made them laugh and comforted them during stressful business times when Dave was launching a startup software company. Maddie was with Dave and Cheryl from 1987 to 1997 and continues to inspire them today. Maddie’s Fund is the fulfillment of a promise to an inspirational dog and the creation of a goal towards achieving a no-kill nation where all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a loving home.
The Friends of Eden Animal Shelter sincerely appreciates this generous $1,000 grant and plans to use the funds towards the medical needs of animals under our care.
Friends of Eden Animal Shelter Receives ASPCA Grant
Medical Assistance for Special Needs Animals, Made Possible by Lil BUB’s Big Fund for the ASPCA
(Eden, NC) – The Friends of Eden Animal Shelter, Inc., today (December 30, 2015) announced that it had received a $500 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (the ASPCA) made possible by Lil BUB’s Big Fund that provides medical assistance for animals with special needs.
This grant is especially needed at this time to assist with medical care for Bandit, a puppy that was hit by a car. X rays showed that Bandit had a broken growth plate in the shoulder of the right front leg and needed immediate surgery. Sadly, the owners waited almost two weeks before surrendering Bandit to Friends of Eden Animal Shelter due to the cost of the surgery. By then, Bandit’s broken growth plate had begun to heal and had to be re-broken and his hip was also out of joint on the back leg probably due to overcompensation to avoid walking on the broken leg.
“What a great Christmas present for Bandit, it could not have come at a better time”, said Sheralene Thompson, Friends of Eden Animal Shelter board member. The ASPCA, founded in 1866, serves as the nation’s leading voice for animals. This 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, is a national leader in the areas of anti-cruelty, community outreach and animal health services. “We feel blessed to have received the Lil BUB’s Big Fund grant at this time.”

We rescue from the city shelter and using social media we network stray animals for exposure to an owner seeking to reclaim their lost pet or to assist homeless animals with potential adopters. We hold fundraisers to raise money for the animal’s care.
